Google Inc. today launched Google Chrome, a new open source browser intended to create a better Web experience for users around the world. Available in beta in more than 40 languages, including Filipino, Google Chrome is a new approach to the browser that’s based on the simplicity and power that users have come to expect from Google products.

In the early days of the Internet, Web pages were frequently little more than text. But today the Web has evolved into a powerful platform that enables users to collaborate with friends and colleagues through social networking sites, email and other web applications, edit documents, watch videos, listen to music, manage finances and much more. Google Chrome was built for today’s web and for the applications of tomorrow.

“We think of the browser as the window to the Web – it’s a tool for users to interact with the web sites and applications they care about, and it’s important that we don’t get in the way of that experience,” said Sundar Pichai, Vice President of Product Management, Google Inc. “Just like the classic Google homepage, Google Chrome has a simple user interface with a sophisticated core to enable the modern Web.”

Making the web experience better for users
Google Chrome was designed to make it easy for users to search and navigate the Web for the content they’re looking for.

*      A combined search and address bar quickly takes users where they want to go, often in just a few keystrokes.
*      When users open a new tab in Google Chrome, they’ll see a page that includes snapshots of their most-visited sites, recent searches and bookmarks, making it even easier to navigate the Web.

Google Chrome was engineered to deliver a seamless Web experience for users. At its core is a multi-process platform that helps provide users with enhanced stability and security.

*      Each browser tab operates as a separate process; by isolating tabs, should one tab crash or misbehave, others remain stable and responsive, and users can continue working without having to restart Google Chrome.
*      Google also built a new JavaScript engine, V8, that not only speeds up today’s web applications, but enables a whole new class of Web applications that couldn’t exist on today’s browsers.

Contributing to the innovation of browsers through openness
“While we see this as a fundamental shift in the way people think about browsers, we realize that we couldn’t have created Google Chrome on our own,” said Linus Upson, director of Engineering, Google Inc. “Google Chrome was built upon other open source projects that are making significant contributions to browser technology and have helped to spur competition and innovation.”

To further advance the openness of the web, Google Chrome is being released as an open source project. The intent is that Google will help make future browsers better by contributing the underlying technology in Google Chrome to the market, while continuing to develop additional features.

How to get Google Chrome

Last Friday, word spread all over Plurkville that the most anticipated Eraserheads one-night only reunion gig was cancelled. This after the Department of Health refused to issue a permit. And many a plurker/E-heads fan began getting belligerent regarding the matter, and you really can’t blame us.

Then yesterday, everything went 360 on us and the concert was again back on track, thanks to MTV  Philippines who took over where our cancer stick-manufacturing friends took us nowhere before entirely disengaging.

Here’s the e-mail statement from E-heads drummer Raymund Marasigan sent to the Sandwich mailing list that same day –

dear everybodyafter much ado. the eraserheads concert is most definitely pushing through.

philip morris and its brands have pulled out from the concert. but another company is taking over the production. the turn over started
yesterday and they have already started work on the site in the fort. so you can check.

there are good news and bad news.

unfortunately its no longer free. all the long winded registration procedures in the red nation site is now void.

the good news is that the age limit is now 12 years old (for safety reasons)and tickets will be sold so you dont have to wait for confirmation and what not.

the official announcement and ticketing details will come out in major newspapers and on the radio on tuesday.

these are the only details i know for now so no need to email me. im just the drummer.

This got everybody’s pulse pumping like some drunk, horny fucktard walking around Quezon Ave in search of anything with a pussy that would let them hump for their wallet crumbs. Forget that it’s no longer free because honestly, we don’t fucking care! As long as we get to watch the band again.

And if that wasn’t enough, Oddyssey Live, a site also doing an E-heads concert watch (a well-informed, well-connected and constantly updated one with a cool countdown widget, unlike what this disshelved, ill-equipped blog and my schedule can muster to accomplish. Kudos to them!), has posted an update less than an hour ago which the site keeper has disseminated along various other mailing lists.

Here it is, fanboy. Read, rejoice and start worrying where’d you’d get the cash fast!

A couple of minutes ago i got a message saying information that made me jump out of my seat!  It said that MTV Philippines has taken over the show of the Eraserheads reunion concert and that ticket prices have been changed to P800 and P1300!  Immediately i made the call to MTV to find out if these reports were true…indeed they are!!!

It has officially been confirmed that the Eraserheads One Night only Reunion concert has been taken over by MTV Philippines!  After Marlboro pulled out, it seems like MTV took on the responsibility of doing the show and giving the fans what they want!!!  Not only that, but ticket prices are also now at P800 and P1300.  Tickets will be sold at ticketworld starting august 28 and you can call them for inquiries at 891-9999.

I know im the first one to release this info and many of you may not believe me but this news comes directly from MTV’s head honcho!  Believe it or not!!!

I have a special place in my heart for Tomb Raider. It’s the first PC game I after graduating from the pixel-happy realm of Pacman, Tetris and Solitaire. It’s gone on a spree of sequels, crossed game console platforms, spawned a movie and the Wilson Tortosa-drawn comic book, and its protagonist Lara Croft has metamorphosed from the crudely animated geek’s digital wet dream material to the kick ass geeks’ mastrubation visual aid rendered with amazing graphics.

As we all know, outside of the Angeline Jolie (and her painfully horrible faux British accent) celluloid landscape, Eidos and Core have gotten models in the past to play real-life Laras in their marketing materials and promotional appearances . Most popular, perhaps, would be Rhona Mitra (who’s moved on to television and movies).

And now, along with the upcoming release of Tomb Raider: Underworld (as a follow-up to the remake of the first Tomb Raider game Tomb Raider: Anniversary), the ninth in the game series, a new Lara has been chosen.

Her name is Allison Caroll, an elite gymnast from Britain which means she can actually pull off most of the manuevers her game counterpart does unlike her predecessors who have have had backgrounds mostly in modeling. According to the official press release posted on the game’s Web site, she also apparently is thrilled to step into the hot adventurer’s virtual boots.

“This is a fantastic opportunity and I look forward to embracing Lara’s world,” said Alison Carroll. “It’s unbelievable how realistic her movements are in Tomb Raider: Underworld and it’s so gratifying to be able to use my years of gymnastic training to portray such a beloved character.”

There are also shots of her doing awesomely dynamic action shots on site.

So there are publicity photos of her around the Internet, garbed in the new Lara costume doing some badass pose and snarky facial expression. This is only natural, since, as we all know that a gazillion shots are needed per photo shoot and then the best ones are to be selected and would end up in magazine ads, posters and whatever else promotional media there is. I got this off Kotaku and well, these photos do display her flexibility, but I guess they made her kick a little too high…and…well with her tiny shorts you’re bound to see her bits untouched by sunlight. And I love that the posts is titled “Tomb Raider’s Underworld“

An artwork international comic book artist Whilce Portacio did for the comic book fan Francis Magalona

Scanning Plurk this morning I came upon news (because I rarely read the paper and have no time for television) that rapper, TV host and Pinoy pop culture icon Francis Magalona has been diagnosed with leukemia and is now confined for treatment in a yet to be disclosed hospital. This I believe is only proper as he and his family have never been known to actually crack open their privacy for the public to prey on and I do believe that fighting such an illness and the following recovery would only be effective when kept in silence and with only the people you’re closest to. But that shouldn’t stop people from supporting and praying for him during this battle.

Currently still undergoing a series of tests, his wife apparently shared with the Inquirer that Francis M started having symptoms of the illness this March and that it didn’t really manifest the extent of his condition right away. Also, according to the rapper himself, “What I’d rather talk about is how to we can solicit blood donations to replace the supply that I have consumed in the hospital.”

We only hope for the best for Francis M. So blood donations of any blood type and platelet are welcome if not encouraged, though of course would undergo necessary lab tests because of medical requirements (read: no existing blood-hinged diseases and allergies among others). Interested donors may drop by The Medical City in Ortigas Ave, Pasig City (a stonethrow away from the Meralco Compound). Because nothing says “I’m a hardcore emo/goth/punk/thrasher/metalhead badass” more than a scar bearing a mouthless cartoon cat with a huge ribbon. As if the Hello Kitty tattoo wasn’t enough, this guy (yes, it’s a GUY) probably added the scar to emphasize his supposed awesomeness and oneness with the Kitteh.
